| Gloucester’s Adam Balding, Alex Brown, Andy Gomarsall, Henry Paul and James Simpson-Daniel have all been named in the 28-man England ‘A’ squad for next Friday’s game against France ‘A’ at Bath’s Recreation ground (Fri 11 Feb, kick off 7.45pm). |
Andy Robinson said: “This is a particularly strong A squad, with many players who would be equally at home in the senior squad, such is our strength in depth. This A team fixture is very important for England, giving players the opportunity to demonstrate form and to fight for a place in the senior team later in the RBS Six Nations.
“With the likes of Andy Gomarsall, Henry Paul and Iain Balshaw there’s much international experience in there and explosive talent in James Simpson-Daniel and Ollie Smith. I also think it’s exciting to see players like Andy Beattie, Chris Bell and Ugo Monye making their mark.”
England A coach and National Academy Manager Brian Ashton added: “This is a very talented bunch of players. They have a very exciting opportunity in front of them. It’s a one-off international and I am sure that the 22 players eventually selected will rise to the challenge.”
