Gloucester Rugby Club started their Heineken Cup campaign with an impressive 33-12 win over Italian side Benetton Treviso on Saturday afternoon.
The Cherry and Whites had a good days work with the extra bonus point after replacement lock forward Adam Eustace ran 30 meters clear to score the fourth try of the afternoon in second half injury time.
Gloucester put in a solid all round performance with tries from Simpson-Daniel, Junior Paramore (2) and the final try of the afternoon. Henry Paul added 13 points to the tally.
Commenting after the game on www.gloucesterrugbyclub.com coach Dean Ryan said: "It was good to get the win away from home in our first game. Treviso are a good side, someone will have to come here and get five points later on in the tournament. We gave away the first try and made it difficult for ourselves in the opening 20 minutes. But I thought we played some good rugby today and secured the maximum points."
Gloucester number eight Junior Paramore was voted the Heineken Cup man of the match. Talking to www.gloucesterrugbyclub.com the Samoan said: "We are well happy with today's points. It is the perfect start to the group."
The Anglo-Italian clash was an entertaining game. There were a number of turn-overs in the opening stages that saw possession change hands many times.
The Italians opened the scoring with a break-away try from outside centre Visentin. However, a superb 80-meter run from Simpson-Daniel on 34 minutes turned the game. The talented winger was given the ball in his own 22, and rounded more than eight Italian defenders on his way to possibly one of the best scores of his career so far.
A try each on the stroke of half time saw Gloucester go in 15-12 up after 40 minutes. A well-disciplined second half performance with Paramore's second try and Eustace's touchdown in injury time sealing the points.
